Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my GenerLink installed?
There are two installation methods for the GenerLink:
- Meter-mounted installation: Utility approval required. Installation costs $250- $450 on average by either a trained utility worker or licensed electrician, depending on the utility.
- Meter-adjacent installation: Utility approval is not typically required. Installation costs $1000-$1500 on average by a licensed electrician.
GenerLink is approved with over 800 utilities for the meter-mount installation, and Global Power Products, the manufacturer of GenerLink, continues to work to gain additional utility approvals. Gaining utility approval is a lengthy process, and in some cases takes years, as it requires extensive testing and validation by the utility.
While the meter-mounted installation is preferred by GPP and our customers due to its faster and lower average installation cost, we offer the meter-adjacent installation to ensure our customers have access to this incredible technology for home backup power during outages. The meter-adjacent installation is more expensive because it requires a new meter box to be installed near your existing utility meter.
If you live in a region where the utility installs the device, coordinate directly with your utility. The customer is responsible for the cost of installation and should work directly with the electrician to coordinate installation.

How does the Ford vehicle work with the GenerLink?
Using Pro Power Onboard™ (PPO), the vehicle acts as a mobile power source. During a utility outage, you can connect the truck to a GenerLink unit using the proprietary GenerLok cable and Ford Vehicle Connector. This allows the truck to feed power directly into your home’s main breaker panel without risk of backfeeding – the flow of electricity back into the utility lines – while protecting line workers. Compatible vehicles include Ford F-150® PowerBoost Hybrid engine with available 7.2kW Pro Power Onboard and F-150® Lightning models with available 9.6kW Pro Power Onboard.
Will GenerLink power my whole home?
The Ford truck has a maximum continuous output of 7.2 kW, so what your truck can power depends on the wattage demands of the items in your home. The GenerLink provides power to your entire electrical breaker panel, giving you the flexibility to choose which circuits to use. The GenerLink is designed to power essential circuits in your home, including outlets, lights, and critical systems wired to your meter – like your furnace or security system – simultaneously (depending on combined wattage demand).
